Basquiat: Boom for Real
Today I visited the Barbican to see the bastquet exhibition. I drew a lot of inspiration from this sense of a movement that was happening in 80s New York. Groups of artists coming together sharing ideas and creating together is something I think is very liberating for individual creatives. It made me with wether cultural movements still happen today? Because I feel like they must but I’m unaware of them.
What
stood out to me in the exhibition was bastwuits rhetoric and knowledge
of arts history. His knowledge seemed to be a huge influence to inform
his art. His rehoric was shown clearly through his note pad writing.
His
postcards were also brilliant creating an a4 piece then photo coping
them to be cut into four postcards. I find exhibitions a great way to
refresh my mindset and get idea of what is happening. Basquiat has been
someone who I have been interested in ever since watching a documentary
on him. I find his art interesting and full of antidotes which are
subjective
