Exhibition Piece development
S.O.D collective have put together an exhibition to go up in oslo and newyork. The theme has be up in the air over the past sevreal months as me and elliot attended meeting while in oslo about this. It was recently decided to be about negative into positive. Everyone within the collective is alowed to exhibit a piece so me and elliot thought it would be good idea to collab. With our module handins around the corner it was much more sensible to collab as we could get it done in half the time.
We decided to focus on technology although often looked at as a positive there is alot of negatives also we often over look. We seemed to believe that being connected all day means we are more connected in genral when really it can often make us unaware of whats happening around us. After discussing this topic for a while we began to focus on the distractions a mobile produces, coming to the conclusion that notifications are a negative often drawing our attention for the sake of the company. Notifications are rarely created with our intentions at its fore front.
We decided on this topic as its something we both feel quite strongly, within notifications we decided to focus mainly on social media as these seem to be the worst culprits. This is also quite relevant to my 505 project on social media. It is possible that it can become an unhealthy habbit.
So the main concept was to look at existing notifications and find the ones which could be seen as negative or unhelpfull and twist them on there head. Using phrases such as 'You are not your instagram' or 'Missed something? Dont worry, it still happened. The aim is to make people awake of how distracting these notifications can be. The format of them instantly catches our attention because its something we do love to see on our phones, Its a feature we often check our phones for new message? It is also a format which could be changed and adapted for example it could be a series of fake news notifications.
